Weingut Eugen Wehrheim

The Wehrheim estate dates back to 1693 and is owned and managed by winemaker Klauss Wehrheim. His wife, Hilde works in the office and assists the guests. Klaus Wehrheim began with 5 ha and presently cultivates 12.5 ha. The town of Nierstein is a winemaking town. Most of the population has been there for generations and they make their living off of wine. This bond with the land and dedication to the industry, has developed Nierstein’s reputation as an area for superior wines. The Wehrheim vineyards are located on the Rhein Terrace on southeast-facing slopes. This particular location protects the vines from western winds and its proximity to the river helps to provide the vines with moisture during hot, sunny days. The vineyards are managed in a very ecologically friendly way. Only organic fertilizers are used (when necessary), every second row is maintained with green cover (which is turned under to enrich the soil), and the yields are kept low. All of these elements contribute to the excellent quality of Wherheim’s wines. The wines are fresh, fruity and lively, and they have excellent potential for ageing. The label shows a drawing of the Wehrheim family crest. The crest symbolizes the wall of the Wehrheim town in the Taunus Mountains. The glacier/ice tool represents the occupation of the first noted “Wehrheim” in Kronberg back in the 17th century. Visit the Weingut Eugen Wehrheim website.
