Planted in Albariza, Tintilla is able to ripen perfectly without showing extra alcohol or overripe flavors. It has a rare confluence of delicate complexity and medium to full bodied weight on the palate, with lovely minerality like other wines of the region. Pair with roast lamb, spicy sausage or charcuterie in a supporting role, this wine would fare well on the table.

Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Vara y Pulgar is produced with Tintilla de Rota, the local strain of the red Graciano from Rioja that also makes a red table wine from Tierra de Cádiz and is sourced from 10 year old vines planted next to the Pago Balbaina. The grapes fermented in a combination of stainless steel and cement vats before maturing for one year prior to bottling; 30% in oak vats and the rest in 6,000 liter cement tanks. The wine was then aged in used barriques for eight months. It's a perfumed red with a herbal side (full clusters?), notes of raspberries and cherries, fresh and balsamic with a medium-bodied palate offering clean flavors of red fruit, quite vertical and with a good finish. It is easy to drink. 14,000 bottles produce
