Domaine le Couroulu Vacqueyras Cuvee Classique 2015
|Region||France, Rhone, Vacqueyras|
|Brand||Domaine le Couroulu|
The Vacqueyras Cuvee Classique is a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre. It comes from 10 hectares of vines over 8 parcels. The soils range from large galets roules on a superbly exposed plateau (most of the Grenache is here) to clay-sand mix on west-facing slopes (where most of the Syrah and Mourvedre vines are planted, as they prefer a relatively cooler terroir). Guy Ricard harvests by hand beginning with his Syrah, followed by Grenache at optimum ripeness, and concludes with the Mourvedre at the onset of surmaturité. The fruit is sorted, 100% destemmed, and then cooled before fermentation begins with the native yeasts. Guy Richard does several remontage and delestage operations to extract as gently as possible. No press wine is used. Each variety undergoes malolactic fermentation following the alcoholic phase and is aged in concrete tanks.
Elegant, with singed cedar and vanilla notes weaving around a core of gently steeped red currant and cherry fruit flavors. Offers a pleasant mineral streak on the finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2020. 800 cases imported.
