d'Arenberg The Footbolt Shiraz 2015The Footbolt is always such a reliable McLaren Vale Shiraz. Tasting the 2015 version is almost a nostalgic experience for me, harking back to childhood memories of boysenberry pie, buckets of freshly picked mulberries and blackberries, that unmistakable smell of Darrel Lee liquorice. Generous and rich in texture. Tannins that are craftily woven into the juicy fruit providing a pleasant chewiness and a structural backbone to the mouthfeel. There's a real sense of cohesion, everything in its place, fruit, acid, tannin, oak. On the topic of oak, its there in the background, perhaps a subtle hint of chocolate brioche or mocha, but it is in no way a distraction to the hero of this wine, the fruit. When I'm not in the mood for flamboyance or challenge, I always reach for a Footbolt, it's just like catching up with an old friend, honest, reliable and comforting. Makes you wonder why you don't catch up more often.
Barrell Whiskey Rye Batch 001Appearance: Burnished cinnamon hues becoming crystal clear at the edges. Tight swirls of the glass bring further bursts of iridescent raw copper, each swirl stained by streaks of late fall. Nose: Cinnamon dusted rye toast with a piercing core of crushed minerals, a touch of the 117.0 proof heat reveals itself without overpowering the nose. Palate: Roasted peaches baked into an opulent custard tart steaming from the oven followed by spice infused malted chocolate and orange zest. Finish: Air-dried citrus peels dipped in candy sugar gently fading into a lazy, rainy Sunday afternoon finish.

Fattoria Petrolo Toscana Torrione 2015Torrione is made mainly from Sangiovese coming from a combination of historic vines of the 70s and ones more recently planted. The 2015 is a blend of Sangiovese (80%), Merlot (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). The recent vineyards were planted under fortunately rigorous guidelines based on the number of vines per hectare and on strict zoning. The yield per plant is notably restricted (max 2.5 lbs per vine plant), allowing a concentration of all the noble components of the grape, fundamental for the full-bodied character of this wine.

The first impression on the nose is of great freshness provided by notes of cherries and blackcurrants knit with notes of black pepper, tobacco, nutmeg, coffee, caramel and vanilla from barrel ageing. Pleasant entry. Tasty, with a soft freshness, nice structure, balanced acidity and fine, elegant tannins. Silky finish, with a lovely aftertaste, where liqueur-like notes of blackcurrants intermingle with toasty notes and sweet spices turning this especial edition of Viña Ardanza into a fine, elegant wine. The ideal partner for roasted and grilled meats, barbecues, poultry and game, Iberian ham and sausages, as well as semi-cured cheeses.
Beckmen Vineyards Cuvee Le Bec 2015A magnificent Cuvee le Bec vintage crafted with 43% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 14% Mourvedre, and 8% Counoise, the blend leans heavily on Grenache compared to the Syrah-dominate 2013 and 2014 vintages. The flavors and aromas are brighter with more red-spectrum fruits, and complex layers of spices, earth, and pepper. A very elegant blend, this vintage shows a little higher acidity which keeps the wine bright and helps to lengthen the very long finish. Honestly, one of my favorite Cuvee le Bec's to date! Enjoy from 2017 - 2024.
Gramona Gessami 2016Appearance: Pale green with brilliant highlights. Nose: Great aromatic intensity reminiscent of a walk in the springtime. It evokes the cool, fresh air, a bunch of white flowers, jasmine, and orange blossom. Aromas of chamomile tea and linden infusions. Apricots, peaches, a citrus breeze. All bound up in a very fragrant, fresh halo. Palate: Pleasant on entry, light bodied and silky on the palate. Fantastic freshness on the finish. The balance of its fruity and floral character is such that it shifts between delicate softness and structure, smoothness and freshness. Food Pairings: Appetizers, salads, and grilled vegetables. All kinds of fish or seafood. Very good with Japanese food. Rice, paellas.

The ageing of a part of the wine in oak barrels gives structure and length in mouth. Food Pairing: Serve at 8-10°C as an aperitif, or with shellfish, grilled fish or fresh goat's cheese.
Tre Fili Pinot Grigio 2016Colour: A yellow straw colour. Nose: The bouquet is intense, fruity with notable character. Palate: Fresh, well balanced with a good finish and length. Food Pairing: It is excellent with minestrone, omelettes, egg dishes in general and fish.
Montinore Pinot Gris 2016The 2016 Pinot Gris is a lovely example of the great balance that we can achieve in the Northern Willamette Valley with this variety. It emerges with aromatics of pear, Meyer lemon zest and fresh mint. It opens up on the palate with a silky and light texture to offer a foundation of stone fruits, melon and bright citrus, with zippy acidity. It finishes with stony minerality and white pepper, with lush and rich texture. As people have come to expect from our Pinot Gris, the 2016 is an excellent food wine that pairs well with anything from salads and seafood to grilled chicken and light meats.
