Sierra Cantabria Crianza 2011This wine comes from three proprietary vineyards: La Veguilla, Jararte, and Valgrande located around the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida. Soils are calcareous clay with gravel. Careful hand harvesting of perfectly mature clusters with good sanitary conditions and additional selection made in the winery using a sorting table. The Rioja Crianza (100% Tempranillo aged 14 months in used American and French oak, and bottled unfiltered) exhibits a complex nose of roasted herbs, sweet cherries, earth, and vanilla. Medium-bodied, with attractively sweet fruit, decent acidity, and silky tannin, it can be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years. The wine undergoes 21 days maceration with two pump-overs daily during the first 11 days and a light pump-over every day after that. Temperature controlled fermentation. Aged 14 months in 2-3 years old Bordelaise barrels of American and French oak with racking every four months. Bottled unfiltered.

Upon entering the mouth, the wine is soft and enveloping and combines freshness with minerality, introducing a wine that fully reflects the Pomino terroir. Tasted in April 2016. A fine wine for aperitifs, vegetarian antipasti, or large fish, such as salmon

Hirsch Vineyards San Andreas Fault Pinot Noir 2012The San Andreas Fault is Hirsch Vineyards' signature pinot noir and is crafted to give the drinker a complete picture of this complex vineyard. It is named for the fault-line which marks the meeting of the North American and Pacific tectonic plates, snaking its way up the California coast and passing less than a mile from Hirsch. Our proximity to the fault is responsible for the geologic and topographical complexity of our soils. The 2012 vintage has produced some of the most exceptional and cellar-worthy wines we have ever seen at Hirsch Vineyards. The pinot noirs are characterized by fruit intensity, a profound tannic structure, and complexity. They will benefit time in the cellar to show their full potential.
