Quinta do Noval Cedro do Noval 2013

SKU 03151

Named after the emblematic cedar tree that dominates the terrace of Quinta do Noval, Cedro do Noval is an authentic expression of the Douro. Principally made up of classic Portuguese varieties, it also contains a proportion of Syrah, which rounds out the fruit and gives the wine enormous charm and accessibility.

Wine EnthusiastThe blend is concentrated and spicy due to Syrah. It is a rich wine, with Douro minerality and concentration, given freshness by the final acidity. Drink this ripe wine now.

Wine AdvocateThe 2013 Cedro do Noval is a blend of 50% Touriga Nacional, 30% Syrah and 20% Touriga Franca, with various lots aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak of varying ages (only 20% new). It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. This Cedro is along the lines of the 2012, perhaps a touch more concentrated, but perhaps not quite as lively. Overall, it shows well young, but it may yet evolve a bit more and become more expressive, too. Over the years, Cedro has been a reliable value, always at or near the 90 point level for modest bucks. It's hard to go wrong and Noval has proven that it has a nice touch with the Syrah component.

Wine SpectatorA juicy red, with concentrated red plum and raspberry flavors that offer snappy acidity. Licorice notes show midpalate, leading to a finish filled with minerally and pepper accents. Drink now through 2019. 600 cases imported.
