Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2013
Wine EnthusiastFresh and linear, this opens with fragrant purple flower, red berry and new leather scents. The firm, youthfully austere palate is loaded with finesse, offering crunchy red cherry, fresh strawberry and licorice notes with taut, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Give it time to unwind and fully develop. Drink 2019-2028.
Wine AdvocateBoscarelli's 2013 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano opens to a dark ruby color with garnet highlights. The wine is based on Sangiovese but has smaller parts Canaiolo and Colorino in the blend. The Colorino gives the wine its attractive color and the Canaiolo provides some of the tannic power. Like Sangiovese, this Tuscan grape needs to be fully ripe in order to iron out any residual astringency. This is not always easy in a cool vintage like 2013. The bouquet here offers wild berry aromas with grilled herb and licorice.
Wine SpectatorFresh and elegant, this red sports a beam of cherry and blackberry flavors, well-matched to the integrated structure. Long and resonant on the earth- and spice-tinged finish. Drink now through 2020. 4,500 cases made.
